Course Description |

| The objectives of this course are many: to allow puppies to socialize with other puppies and humans; to teach owners the importance of socialization of their dogs, particularly at a very young age; to impart owner information on canine care, to help puppy owners learn to effectively address common puppy challenges, and to teach the beginnings of obedience skills. Age: 9 weeks to 16 weeks at the start date of the class.WEEK 1: Overview of positive reinforcement, housetraining, cratetraining, socialization. Teaching click and treat, luring into sit, down and stand. The limited leash concept. Play. Week 1: Overview of positive reinforcement; housetraining; cratetraining; socialization; getting the puppy’s focus (click and treat); luring into sit and down; “go to your bed”; manners around food bowl; play. Week 2: Power of massage; settle; checking the body; chewing and biting; “leave it”, “go to your bed”, jumping up, mini-recalls (“come”); play. Week 3: Grooming; door manners; more recalls; walking on a loose leash; play. Week 4: Nutrition; greeting etiquette; discussion of other behavioral problems; review of skills; play. |

| Week 5: “Stay”; discussion of other behavioral problems; review, puppy push-ups; play. Week 6: Spay/neuter issues; review of skills; play; graduation! Puppies are recommended to start this class AS SOON AS they have ONE series of vaccinations!!! The earlier they are able to start to socialize, the better...we have students as young as 9 weeks!
